Hubballi Town Hall to get a facelift finally

Hubballi: After much delay the, Hubli Dharwad Muncipal Corporation (HDMC) has finally taken up the job to renovate the Town Hall building in city which was in a dilapidated condition and left unused for years.
The Town Hall would be renovated under the second Rs 100 Crore special package to the district at an estimated cost of Rs 1.50 Crore in the next six to eight months and the work would commence in two days.

Leader of the Opposition in Assembly, Jagadish Shettar who performed bhumi pooja for the building said the Town Hall building plan had been approved, contract finalised and the renovation would begin in the next two days. The renovated building will bring back the past glory of the Town Hall with a well-equipped greenroom and other rooms, toilets and other blocks. This will help in staging plays and organising cultural programmes. The contractor has been asked to retain the foundation of the old building while improving the stage and first floor, he said.

He said he would suggest HDMC to adopt a resolution on naming the Town Hall after well known theatre personality of the region Gudigeri Basavaraj.

The renovation of Sawai Gandharva Hall is in progress and expected to be completed in six to eight months, he said adding that Rs 1.50 Crore had been sanctioned for the construction of a pyramid at Vishweshwar Nagar.
