The toy train at MG Park, Hubballi, built at a cost of ₹4.1 crore, has been inactive since mid-2023, highlighting administrative challenges. Of the total cost, ₹2 crore was allocated as capital investment. Despite an initial revenue generation of ₹1.5 lakh after its 2022 inauguration, operations came to a halt in August 2023, largely due to delays in transferring responsibility between Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL) and HDMC.
The train’s modern design mimics a bullet train, boasting features like a sleek curved windscreen, a front LED display, and air-conditioned carriages. It includes two engines and four carriages with a capacity of 16 passengers per carriage. Additional amenities such as audio-visual systems, automatic doors, CCTV surveillance, and rooftop solar panels enhance the experience.
Operational issues, including a minor derailment, were reported soon after the launch, compounding the delays. While the facility has potential to be a major attraction, administrative bottlenecks continue to keep it out of service.
