Hubballi: Karnataka’s Shri Siddharoodha Swami Railway station, in South Western Railway (SWR) has become world’s longest platform. This station is located at the center of the city and has ample road connectivity from both sides.
The first inspection to Hubballi station was carried out by General Manager of South Western Railway, Ajay Kumar Singh who identified the need to remodel Hubballi yard so as to have simultaneous reception and despatch towards all sides smoothly.
Shri Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Station Yard remodelling was successfully commissioned today with electronic interlocking in the presence of Ajay Kumar Singh. One platform measuring 1505 meters is slated to become the longest platform in World.
The station has two lines from Davangere/Bengaluru and Gadag on one side and a line towards Londa on the other side where the Railway line branches towards Goa and Maharashtra. Single line working towards Gadag, Davangere and Londa was the main bottleneck used for receiving and dispatching purposes.
Even though Hubballi Station had five platforms, due to the ever-increasing traffic, the number of platforms were increased. As there was no space towards Londa side/station road side of Hubballi, the yard was expanded towards Davangere/Gadag. As part of the remodelling of the yard, three new platforms are added longitudinally in continuation of existing platforms.
Th entire budget for full yard, signalling, electrical, third entry, building and so on amount to Rs 90 crores. The construction work for the same started in Nov 2019.
