In today’s digital age, likes and influence are the new currency—and even antiheroes want a piece of the spotlight. In Hubballi-Dharwad, notorious rowdy-sheeters have turned social media into their stage, broadcasting birthday bashes with swords and swagger, flaunting power and defiance.

These self-styled influencers, inspired by Dale Carnegie in the worst way, post intimidating reels to assert dominance and instill fear, not just among locals but also authorities. From cake-cutting with weapons to public stunts, their online bravado was growing unchecked—until now.

In a bold move, Hubballi-Dharwad Police have launched a massive crackdown, identifying over 700 accounts across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. These pages, often run by cronies, glorify criminal activities, flaunt traffic violations, and even boast about disturbing communal peace.

So far, 28 FIRs have been registered against 50 offenders across 15 police stations, and account handlers are under interrogation. Commissioner N Shashi Kumar confirmed that the content could incite violence and spread fear among innocent citizens. Alarmingly, some reels were even shot on school premises.

Police say even fans and supporters of such content will not be spared. A retired officer noted the alleged backing of local politicians, and how some followers hit ‘like’ out of fear, not admiration.

The message is clear: social media is no safe haven for crime glorification anymore.
