Hubballi: Members of the BJP resorted to a road blockade and held a demonstration in Hubballi, as part of the statewide protest launched by the party seeking action against “corrupt” Congress leaders including ministers.
The protesters marched to the Mini Vidhana Soudha via the landmark Kittur Chennamma Circle beginning from the Sangolli Rayanna statue at Brindavan Circle.
Holding portraits of the ministers D K Shivakumar and Ramesh Jarkiholi and Congress State Women’s Wing President Lakshmi Hebbalkar, the protesters raised slogans against them and demanded their resignation.
They formed a human chain near the statue of Sangolli Rayanna leading to a traffic congestion.
The protesters said that the income tax department officials had conducted raids against Shivakumar recently and soon after demonetisation, similar raids had been conducted against Jarkiholi and Hebbalkar.
It was evident from these raids that these leaders had amassed wealth using “corrupt” means and they should resign immediately, the protesters said.
Later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor seeking immediate removal of the two Ministers from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s Cabinet.
Former MLAs Virabhadrappa Halaharavi, Ashok Katwe among others led the protest.
