A devastating collision on National Highway 48 near Motebennur in Byadgi taluk on Thursday morning resulted in the deaths of six individuals from the same family. The tragic mishap took place when a car, reportedly travelling at high speed, crashed into a heavy vehicle while heading from Ranibennur to Hubballi.

According to law enforcement officials, the victims were on their way to attend a family celebration when the accident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Immaulla Afraz (27), Ummisifa Afraz (16), Alisha Naranagi (20), Pulkhan Naranagi (20), Ummera (15), and Asiya Khanlandara. All hailed from Ranibennur and Harihara towns.

Two other family members, Mehek (18) and Ummitaskin (11), sustained serious injuries in the incident. They have been shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi for treatment and are currently under medical supervision.

District in-charge Minister Shivanand Patil expressed grief over the shocking loss of lives and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He assured that he would consult with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding appropriate financial relief for the kin of the deceased.

Superintendent of Police for Haveri, Anshu Kumar, visited the site of the crash and confirmed the fatalities. A formal complaint has been registered at the Byadgi police station, and investigations are underway to determine the precise cause.

This tragic incident once again highlights the need for stringent speed control and vigilant driving on highways.
