Hubballi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be addressing a massive pro-CAA rally today, January 18 in Hubballi. The rally is scheduled to begin at 5 PM.
Before the start of the convention in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, Shah will conduct the ‘Jan Jagrati’ rally till the Nehru Maidan, the venue of the convention.
Ahead of the Union Minister’s visit, security has been beefed up in the city and all precautionary measure are in place to ensure that no untoward incidents occur.
CM BSY to meet Amit Shah in Hubballi
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa will meet with Union Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Hubballi at around 6.30 PM. During the meeting, BSY will reportedly discuss the expansion of the state Cabinet with Shah.
It can be recalled that the legislators in the CM BSY-led state government have been awaiting the Cabinet expansion for a while. Many, including the new MLAs, are lobbying for ministerial berths. The Chief Minister has been facing a lot of pressure from many sides due to this.
Congress to stage protest against Shah’s visit
Congress workers have planned to stage a protest against Amit Shah’s visit to Hubballi over the CAA. Reports state that over 3,000 party workers are expected to participate in the protest against the pro-CAA rally at around 3 PM.
Update: SDPI activists arrested ahead of Shah’s visit
Reportedly, over 10 SDPI activists were arrested in Hubballi ahead of Amit Shah’s visit to the city. The arrested SDPI members were allegedly planning a protest against Shah and the CAA.
