The Hunsur city police have arrested Raouf, a resident of Kushalanagar in Kodagu district, for allegedly raping a Hindu woman from Kerala and attempting to murder her. The accused, who was running a loan business, had met the victim while working in Mysuru and had been dating her under the pretense of being unmarried and willing to marry her.
The victim, who had been abandoned by her husband, had given the accused her money and belongings. However, when she discovered his true identity, including his marital status, he attacked and tried to strangle her.
The police registered charges of rape and attempted murder against Raouf following their investigation. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
