In a commendable initiative, judges from the Srirangapatna district spearheaded a cleanliness drive along the banks of the Kaveri River near the town’s bathing ghat on Monday. The drive aimed to eliminate trash and foster environmental awareness within the community.

Judges Gopalakrishna Rai, M.K. Rupa, Mahadevappa, Harish Kumar, and Hanumantharayappa took the lead in collecting and segregating various types of waste, including clothes, plastic, dry leaves, and other debris from the riverbank and its surroundings. Their focused efforts spanned over an hour, successfully covering a 100-meter stretch of the ghat.

The initiative received enthusiastic support from community leaders and local organizations. Notable participants included Jyotishi V. Bhanuprakash Sharma, Ranganayaki Women’s Association President Ashalatha Puttegowda, Achievers Academy Chairman Raghavendra, and Advocates Association President Satyanarayana. Their collective involvement underscored the drive’s community-centric approach.

In addition to cleaning the riverbank, the team also addressed the historic hanging bridge memorial near the courthouse, removing weeds and enhancing its appearance. Furthermore, various tree species were planted in the Mummaidi Krishna Raja Wodeyar Park, located near the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, adding greenery and improving the local environment.

Satyanarayana, President of the Advocates Association, highlighted the critical need for collective responsibility in preserving the Kaveri River’s purity. He urged citizens, local municipalities, and socially conscious organizations to collaborate in protecting the environment, emphasizing that community involvement is vital for long-term sustainability.

This cleanliness drive not only improved the local environment but also served as a powerful reminder of the role each individual plays in safeguarding natural resources. The commitment demonstrated by the judges and community leaders sets a positive precedent for future initiatives aimed at environmental stewardship.
