Kalaburagi: A disagreement over chapati preferences escalated into a physical altercation at the Central University of Karnataka, Kadaganchi campus, on Friday night. The conflict arose when North Indian students demanded machine-made chapatis, while South Indian students insisted on handmade ones. The argument soon turned into a fight between two student groups.

During the clash, a student named Aniket sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Others, including Prashant and Suhas, were reportedly involved. When police intervened, students protested against them.

The University Registrar has filed a complaint at Narona Police Station, and authorities are investigating to prevent further unrest.

Concerns over student safety
The incident follows another case in Karnataka where a second-year MBBS student from Kashmir at Al-Ameen Medical College, Bijapur, faced brutal ragging. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has sought CM Siddaramaiah’s intervention. Jammu and Kashmir’s former CM Omar Abdullah confirmed an FIR has been filed, and four accused students have been identified.
