Kalaburagi: BJP MLC and Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, N Ravi Kumar, has stated that he will comply with the High Court’s directives regarding his controversial comments against Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum.

Speaking to TNIE over a phone call on Friday, Kumar acknowledged that the Karnataka High Court, while hearing his plea to quash the FIR filed against him at the Station Bazar Police Station, had instructed him to cooperate with the investigation and issue a formal apology to the DC.

The FIR was registered following remarks made by Ravi Kumar during a BJP protest in Kalaburagi on May 24, where he allegedly accused the DC of taking orders from the Congress and controversially said, “She seems to have come from Pakistan.”

Ravi Kumar clarified that he respects the judiciary and has consistently cooperated with investigating authorities. He assured that an apology letter will be submitted to DC Fouzia Taranum through his legal counsel within the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, Jewargi MLA Dr Ajay Singh condemned Ravi Kumar’s remarks, stating, “The post of Deputy Commissioner is a constitutional office, and such positions deserve due respect.” He further urged Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to consider revoking Ravi Kumar’s Council membership in response to the incident.
