The Karnataka government has approved a proposal to raise the height limit for residential buildings in Kalaburagi from 11.5 metres to 15 metres, a move aimed at supporting the city’s rapid growth. Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority (KUDA) chairman Mazar Alam Khan, who actively pursued this amendment under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961, confirmed the approval.

The proposal, initially finalized in KUDA’s general body meeting and submitted on March 12, 2024, received official clearance on February 18. This adjustment addresses long-standing demands from residents and CREDAI Kalaburagi, facilitating the construction of multi-storey buildings. Officials believe this will help manage land scarcity and population density issues while boosting the city’s economy.

With Kalaburagi striving for tier-2 city status, Khan emphasized that vertical expansion would optimize land use, attract investment, and create more housing and commercial opportunities. He expressed gratitude to district minister Priyank Kharge for his support in securing the approval.

Additionally, Khan unveiled plans for a 500-acre township on the city’s outskirts to ease congestion in the main urban areas. As a growing hub in Kalyana Karnataka, Kalaburagi has witnessed notable progress, further bolstered by the establishment of its airport, which has improved accessibility and economic prospects.
