Kalaburagi: Laxmana Poojari, a man wanted in 11 cases including murder, was arrested following a police encounter in Madyala village on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by PSI Somalinga Wadiyar attempted to apprehend Poojari, who attacked them. In the ensuing altercation, Wadiyar shot Poojari in the right leg.

Poojari, the prime suspect in the murder of former gram panchayat member Vishwanatha Jamdar, was taken to a hospital for treatment. He is also accused of supplying firearms in Bengaluru and Kalaburagi, prompting police to investigate his supply chain and gather information on buyers.

Jamdar was shot dead near Jidaga Cross in Aland taluk on September 13 by two assailants while returning home from dropping his son at school. Preliminary investigations indicated he was shot three times in the head.

The BJP has raised concerns about the law and order situation in the district, alleging that its workers are being targeted by police. In response, State Minister Priyank Kharge has promised strict action against those disrupting peace.
