Radhakrishna Doddamani, the face of Congress in Gulbarga, became instrumental in securing victory for the party’s president, Mallikarjun Kharge, in the recent elections. Kharge sought to avenge his 2019 defeat at the hands of Umesh Jadhav, a former confidant-turned-foe, by fielding his son-in-law, Radhakrishna, also known as RK, this time.
In a closely contested battle, RK leveraged his political acumen, honed through running Kharge’s previous campaigns, to clinch victory by a margin of 27,205 votes. The victory was partly attributed to the consolidation of SC and Muslim votes for Congress, counterbalancing the consolidation of Lingayats and Lambanis for Jadhav.
Kharge’s longstanding image and his contributions to Gulbarga played a pivotal role in securing this win. His emotive appeal to the district’s people, urging them to attend his funeral even if they did not vote for Congress, struck a chord with voters.
Prior to the polls, Kharge’s son, Priyank Kharge, remained dedicated to the district for 15 days, tirelessly working for the family’s electoral success.
