VTU empowers SC/ST students with laptops to bridge digital divide
In a major stride toward educational equity, the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Regional Centre in Kalaburagi distributed laptops to 70 students from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities on Friday, aiming to reduce the digital divide and promote inclusive academic growth.
The laptops were handed out at a special ceremony held at VTU’s Regional Centre for Postgraduate Studies. Beneficiaries included students from MTech courses such as Computer Science, VLSI, CCT, and CHT, as well as MCA, MBA, and undergraduate programmes in Computer Science and Electronics.
Dr. B. Shambhu Lingappa, Director of the Regional Centre, commended Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar for his unwavering focus on student welfare.
“This initiative strengthens the academic and technical capacities of students from marginalised sections,” he remarked, praising the VTU SC/ST Cell for leading the effort.
He further credited Pralhad Rathod, Liaison Officer from Belagavi, for playing a key role in the programme’s successful execution.
“This distribution reflects VTU’s broader vision of an equitable and tech-enabled learning ecosystem,” he added.
The event also saw participation from programme coordinators M.A. Waheed, Satish Upalonkar, and Brijbhushan, along with SC/ST Coordinator Rahul Moolbharati.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind in the digital age, underlining its resolve to empower underserved communities through access to vital resources.
