Bidar: Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu B. Chavan announced that a well-equipped Kannada Bhavan will be constructed at Kamalanagar to facilitate smooth conduct of pro-Kannada activities.
He was speaking at the first Kannada Sahitya Sammelana organised by Bidar District and Kamalanagar Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishad at Mahatma Gandhi Higher Primary School premises in Kamalanagar on February 27. “I am always ready to work for Kannada. I have been fulfilling all the demands made by the office-bearers of Kannada Sahitya Parishat for the development of Kannada. Kannada activities are going on at a brisk pace in District and Taluk headquarters by Sahitya Parishat, especially in Kamalanagar. He assured me that his cooperation will always be there.
Prior to 2008, there was a shortage of Kannada schools and teachers in Aurad, he said and added, “After I became an MLA, there are Kannada schools everywhere.”
He said a Kannada-like atmosphere has been created in this region where Marathi and Hindi influence is high. The venerable Dr. Channabasava Pattadevara has played an important role in preserving and nurturing Kannada in the border areas. As a mark of respect to such great personalities, I had called the theatre in the District headquarters after the venerable Dr. Channabasava Pattadevara and invited the then Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa for a programme, he said.
The Minister said that a statue of revered Dr. Channabasava Pattadeva will be built in Kamalanagar. “The Government led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has given utmost importance to the development of Kannada. In order to correct the injustice done to Kannadigas in education and employment, a very important Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Bill was passed in the last session. Kannadigas will get importance in Karnataka from now on,” he added.
