Kalaburgi: The state BJP image took a beating as one of its National Scheduled Caste (SC) Morcha member was whisked away by the police during party’s state executive meeting.

A team of police from Upparpet police station in Bengaluru took Venkatesh Maurya into their custody and released him after investigation.

In the year 2011, a woman had filed a case against Maurya alleging cheating. Police had tried for arbitrating a settlement but their efforts had gone in vain. Maurya went absconding after that and police were on the lookout for him. They nabbed him based on definite tip off regarding his presence during the state BJP executive meeting.

Case history

“In November 2011, the accused allegedly called the woman who ran an NGO to a hotel in Gandhinagar, saying that a government meeting related to NGOs was going on there. When the women went there, he allegedly raped her.

Later, he promised to marry her and allegedly took Rs 35 Lakh and jewellery from her. Only, a few years later, the woman realised that Maurya was married and had two children.

Based on strong evidence, the 38-year-old woman had filed a cheating case in the court and finally police managed to trap the accused.

BJP image took a severe beating when the police team whisked away the accused straight from the party’s state executive meet.
