Kalaburagi: Karnataka’s first City-centralised Free Public Wi-Fi Service by the Information and Technology Department was inaugurated at the premises of city corporation premises on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge said, “Free Wi-Fi facility is being launched at the premises of every city corporation of the state. The Smart Pole of Indus Towers Company is being used for the purpose. The smart pole has been used in only 12 locations in the country and Kalaburagi is one of them.”
“In the corporation premises, Wi-Fi is available for around 250metres in the surrounding. At once, 150 people can use the facility at a speed of 1 Mbps, 30 minutes (100 MB download) of Wi-Fi is free for a single user per day. This facility is intended for the smartphone users,” the minister added.
“Free Wi-Fi will be provided in 30 public places, along with this Wi-Fi facility will be extended to 2,500 Gram Panchayats. This would help public in obtain digital services. The government is all set to install more than 5,000 hotspots in 11 city corporation limits. Indus Towers would complete installing smart poles in 173 locations byMarch, 2018,” Priyank Kharge said.
