Kalaburagi: On the evening of Friday October 14, Fire Department officers pulled an ex-serviceman from a roadside canal that runs through Mahalakshmi Layout in Brahmapura area.

The ex-serviceman has been identified as Mallikarjuna Madiyalu. He was riding a two-wheeler in the evening, and while giving way to another vehicle coming in front of him, he slipped and fell into the canal. The water in the canal was flowing rapidly due to incessant rains for the last two to three days. He was washed away by the rush of water and had gone fifteen feet into the canal.

Fortunately, the spot where he fell into the canal was in front of the fire brigade headquarters. As a result, the fire brigade personnel immediately rushed to the rescue. With the help of ropes, they succeeded in rescuing him from danger.

The rescue operation lasted for about an hour.
