Kalaburgi: The Income Tax department staff seized Rs 2 crore during a raid in the city on Saturday. According to sources, a person who alighted from a train with a bag was about to leave the area when IT department officials stopped the car. Upon inspection, they discovered the cash. It is reported that the car belongs to a Congress leader and former mayor.
Opposition has been alleging that the central government is misusing IT department to target it’s opponents, DCM DK Shivakumar and his brother DK Suresh alleged that their supporters were unnecessarily harassed by the IT department.
The raid gains significance ahead of the second phase of polling in the state, scheduled for May 7. Kalaburgi, Bidar, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Davangere, Uttar Kannada, Gadag-Haveri, Dharwad, and Belagavi go for polling on May 7.
