Koppal: More than four acres of plantation crop was gutted in a fire that broke out on the outskirts of Basapura Village.
The fire broke out in the afternoon at a farm owned by Channabasappa Lekkihal and Manohar Karava, both natives of Ilakkal. As soon as the news was received, a fire engine arrived and the accident was brought under control.
However the fire spread across the fence in the mango-growing orchard and then spread to the plantation crops such as sandalwood, and mahogony among others.
The horticulture plants, which had been preserved for 12 years, were gutted in a jiffy, causing an estimated loss of Rs. 15 to 20 lakh. Sapota and raw mangoes at the harvesting stage were gutted in the fire.
