Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has made it mandatory for all industrial and consumer products manufactured in the state to display names and usage instructions in Kannada, alongside other languages.
A circular issued on February 15 reinforced that this rule applies to both public and private sectors. Enforcement authorities under Section 9 of the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Act, 2022, have been directed to ensure strict compliance.
The government emphasized that language preservation is crucial for cultural identity and economic inclusion. The Act, effective from March 12, 2024, seeks to promote Kannada in business, marketing, and production, ensuring better opportunities for local citizens.
As per Section 17(7) of the Act, all manufacturers must include Kannada on product labels, wherever feasible. Authorities will closely monitor adherence, signaling a firm push for linguistic inclusivity in commerce.
