
Karnataka Braces for Heatwave as Temperatures Soar
North Interior Karnataka is set to experience intense heat and humidity in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a temperature rise from March 15 to 19, with some regions already witnessing extreme heat.
Highest Temperatures Recorded
Ainapur Hobli in Kalaburagi district recorded a scorching 42.8°C in the last 24 hours. Raichur is nearing 43-44°C, prompting officials to consider revising government office hours to avoid peak afternoon heat.
Heatwave Warning & Forecast
IMD predicts a 2 to 4-degree increase in temperatures across North Interior Karnataka between March 15 and 17, with isolated heatwaves expected on March 18 and 19. South Interior Karnataka will see a gradual 2 to 3-degree rise soon after.
Districts Affected by Extreme Heat
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) reported temperatures above 40°C in Kalaburagi, Bidar, Bagalkote, Raichur, Yadgir, and Vijayapura. Additionally, parts of Bagalkote, Belagavi, Tumakuru, Ballari, Gadag, Koppala, Uttara Kannada, Vijayanagara, Chikkaballapura, and Mysuru have recorded high temperatures.
Precautionary Measures
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao advised avoiding outdoor activities between noon and 3 PM, staying hydrated, and consuming nutritious food to prevent dehydration. He assured that government hospitals are equipped to handle heat-related illnesses.
