Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is preparing to celebrate the centenary of the historic Belgaum Session, which was held under the presidency of Mahatma Gandhi on December 24, 1924. The event will see top national leaders gathering in Kundanagari, with former US President Barack Obama attending as a special guest.
Law Minister and Chairman of the Centenary Celebration Committee, H.K. Patil, announced that the party has planned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the session in a grand manner. “The Belgaum Session was a pivotal moment in India’s freedom struggle, and we want to celebrate it in a way that honours its significance,” Patil said while addressing a gathering at the KPCC office in Bengaluru.
The 1924 Belgaum Session, held from December 24 to 26, marked a crucial turning point in the Indian independence movement. Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency and the resolutions passed during the session played a significant role in shaping the country’s future.
As part of the celebrations, flames from four corners of Karnataka will converge in Belgaum, symbolising unity and solidarity. The event will also feature a KPCC meeting, where national leaders will pay tribute to Gandhi’s legacy and reaffirm the party’s commitment to its ideals.
Obama’s presence is expected to add great significance to the event, highlighting the global relevance of Gandhi’s principles of non-violence and democracy.
The Karnataka Congress has planned a series of events leading up to the centenary celebration, including seminars, rallies, and cultural programmes. The party aims to revive Gandhi’s message of unity, secularism, and social justice.
With this centenary celebration, the Congress hopes to reinvigorate its connection with the people and reaffirm its role in shaping India’s future.
