Clarification by Commissioner
Anupam Agrawal, the City Police Commissioner, has addressed concerns regarding the insurance coverage of police vehicles in Karnataka. This statement comes in response to a viral video on social media falsely claiming that a highway patrol vehicle’s insurance had lapsed. The commissioner clarified that the Karnataka government insurance department ensures the procurement and timely renewal of insurance for all police department vehicles.
Details of Incident
The viral video depicted a two-wheeler rider being stopped by police for not possessing a pollution certificate. However, the accompanying false message suggested that the police vehicle itself lacked insurance coverage. Agrawal clarified that the patrol vehicle showcased in the video has active insurance valid until October 13, 2025, and possesses a pollution certificate valid until January 8, 2025.
Action Taken
To address the misinformation, the commissioner stated that the two-wheeler rider who shared the video has been penalized with a fine of Rs 500 for failing to produce a pollution certificate for their vehicle.
This clarification reaffirms the commitment of the Karnataka government to ensure proper insurance coverage for police vehicles, emphasizing accountability and adherence to regulatory requirements.
