Karnataka Govt Raises Nandini Milk Price by ₹4/Litre from April 1
The Karnataka government has announced a ₹4 per litre hike in the price of Nandini milk and curd, effective April 1. The decision, made in a Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, aims to support dairy farmers by accounting for increased production and processing costs.
Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Venkatesh confirmed that steps would be taken to ensure the additional revenue benefits milk producers directly. Additionally, a previous ₹2 per litre price increase, implemented on June 26, 2024, will be withdrawn, and the new pricing structure will apply to both 500ml and 1-litre packs.
While the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) will finalize the pricing, Minister H.K. Patil indicated a decision would be made soon.
The announcement has sparked political backlash, with BJP Karnataka labeling the move as “anti-poor” in a post on X. The party criticized the government for increasing essential commodity prices while allegedly neglecting farmer subsidies.
BJP state president Vijayendra Yediyurappa accused the Congress government of imposing multiple price hikes on the public, calling the increase in milk prices “daylight robbery.” He argued that the decision would burden citizens already struggling with rising costs of water, electricity, and daily essentials.
The price hike has intensified the ongoing political debate on inflation and governance in Karnataka.
