The Karnataka government will officially launch its ambitious Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City (KHIR-City) project on September 26, modelled after international innovation hubs like Singapore’s Biopolis and the Research Triangle Park in the US. The first phase of this project, located between Doddaballapura and Dobaspet, 50 km from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, will be developed on 500 acres out of the total 2,000 acres, with an estimated investment of over Rs 40,000 crore.
Minister MB Patil highlighted that KHIR-City is expected to generate around 1,00,000 jobs and will incorporate elements of Bengaluru’s Electronics City. The project aims to boost Karnataka’s economy, promote exports, and position Bengaluru as a global innovation hub. An advisory committee comprising experts like Dr. Devi Shetty and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has been formed to ensure its timely progress.
