Karnataka’s swimmers showcased exceptional skills at the second edition of the Den Den Sea Swimming Championship, where they captured an impressive 51 medals. Their haul included 17 gold, 18 silver, and 17 bronze, underlining their outstanding performance at the open-water competition hosted at Mangalore Surf Club beach. The championship saw more than 200 swimmers from nine different states competing in five categories.

Karnataka’s swimmers especially stood out in the 250m and 500m events, where they clinched all 12 medals in both men’s and women’s divisions. Their dominance extended to the 1.5 km, 3 km, and newly introduced 6 km categories, where they secured a total of 39 medals.

The event’s winners were honoured by Dr. Bharath Shetty, MLA for Mangalore North, and Commandant Munish Aggarwal from the Coast Guard. Despite Karnataka’s overwhelming success, other states such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat also managed to bag some medals, with Tamil Nadu earning four in total.

Organizers expressed their delight over the event’s success, citing the favorable weather conditions and smooth execution, with no jellyfish incidents. The championship not only attracted swimmers from across India but also highlighted the importance of sea safety. With continued support from the Indian Coast Guard and other partners, organizers are already looking forward to next year’s event.
