Mangaluru: The Karnataka tourism department is considering introducing beach shacks and allowing alcohol on its beaches, similar to Goa’s successful beach tourism model. Rajendra KV, Director of Karnataka Tourism and MD of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), announced that these proposals might be part of the upcoming tourism policy aimed at increasing tourist footfall.
Speaking at the “Connect 2024” event, which involved travel and tourism stakeholders from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, Rajendra acknowledged the need to relax restrictions on beach timings and alcohol consumption to make Karnataka’s beaches more attractive to visitors. He also discussed plans to improve beach safety with additional streetlights and promote tent tourism by identifying land parcels for development.
Dakshina Kannada DC Mullai Muhilan MP mentioned that beach access in Mangaluru has been extended until 1 AM but noted that current restrictions after 9 PM will be reviewed with police input.
