Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Tuesday that the state will commemorate the 10th anniversary of implementing Article 371-J, which provides for special development provisions for the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. The celebrations will include the inauguration of a new 371-bed building at the Kalaburagi branch of the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.

Shivakumar praised Kalaburagi MP Mallikarjun Kharge for his role in bringing an international standard ESIC hospital to the district, contributing to its emergence as a significant medical hub. With developments including the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, KIDWAI, and Jayadeva Hospital, the region is expected to reduce the need for residents to travel to Bengaluru and Hyderabad for medical care.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that Article 371-J, added to the Constitution by the 98th Constitutional Amendment Act of 2012, has spurred educational, occupational, and social advancements in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, which encompasses Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Koppal, Yadgiri, and Ballari.

Additionally, Shivakumar addressed recent repairs to the Tungabhadra dam, commending the workers for their rapid response after a critical gate malfunction. Despite criticism from political opponents, the government successfully repaired the dam, preserving vital water resources for farmers. A ceremony to honor the engineers, technicians, and officials involved in the repair efforts will be held soon.
