Civil defence mock drills are scheduled across four districts in Karnataka — Raichur, Mysuru, Mandya, and Karwar — from May 9 to 12, according to senior officials. The drills, aimed at preparing civilians for emergency situations and hostile attacks, will kick off in Raichur (May 9), followed by Mysuru (May 10), Mandya (May 11), and Karwar (May 12).

Vartika Katiyar, DIG and Additional Commandant General of Home Guards, confirmed the schedule and clarified that no new drills are planned for Bengaluru at present. However, a major drill was recently conducted at the Civil Defence Academy in Bengaluru, simulating scenarios such as air raid alerts, emergency evacuations, and rescue operations.

While Bengaluru, Karwar, and Raichur were initially selected based on Centre’s orders due to their strategic importance — including PSUs, defence installations, and energy plants — Mandya and Mysuru were added after fresh intelligence inputs.

Home Minister G Parameshwara reassured the public that Karnataka has sufficient security forces and plans for new recruitments are underway. “Instructions from the Centre, especially after the Pahalgam terror incident, are being strictly followed,” he said, noting that district SPs have been briefed on the increased threat perception.
