Mangaluru: The Karnataka tourism department, under the direction of Rajendra KV, Director of Karnataka Tourism and MD of KSTDC, has launched an initiative to map the coastal stretch from Batapady Beach to Sasihithlu Beach for sustainable tourism development. During “Connect 2024,” Rajendra emphasized zoning this coastal region to designate permissible activities, aiming for planned growth while preserving the natural environment.
He highlighted the potential for medical tourism, citing the region’s numerous medical institutions, and mentioned plans for a coastal tourism chapter in the upcoming state policy. The goal is to increase domestic tourist visits to 49 crore by 2029, with a target of 20 lakh foreign tourists.
Dakshina Kannada DC Mullai Muhilan MP called for efforts to position Mangaluru as a top tourist destination, stressing the potential in adventure tourism, such as surfing, while addressing the challenges posed by coastal regulations. He proposed a master plan and investor-focused efforts to promote tourism by blending the region’s natural beauty with cultural heritage.
