The Karnataka Transport Department is issuing a stern warning to motorists who have yet to comply with the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) mandate for vehicles purchased before 2019. Despite multiple extensions and deadlines, many motorists have shown indifference to the new regulations, prompting the department to set June 12 as the final deadline for compliance.

Initially, the department had assured no penalties for vehicles without HSRP number plates until June 12. However, with the deadline approaching, authorities have confirmed that there will be no further extensions. Enforcement actions will commence from June 13, and motorists failing to install HSRP number plates will face fines.

The mandate applies to all vehicles registered before April 2019, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and light, medium, and heavy vehicles. While only 3.5 million vehicles in the state have complied with the mandate, a significant 15.4 million vehicles are yet to do so.

Despite three previous deadline extensions, compliance remains low, prompting the department to enforce regulations strictly starting June 13. Non-compliant motorists will be fined ₹500 for the first offence and ₹1,000 for subsequent offences.

The Karnataka Transport Department reaffirms its commitment to making HSRP number plates mandatory for all vehicles in the state and urges prompt compliance to avoid penalties.
