Karnataka is bracing itself for heavy rainfall in various regions, courtesy of a trough formation in sea levels. A. Prasad, a scientist at IMD Bengaluru, has emphasized the potential impact of cyclonic conditions and issued a high rainfall alert for coastal and southern areas.

Regional Impact and Alerts

As per recent reports, Kodagu and Chikkamagalur have already received 7 cm of rainfall today, and the precipitation is anticipated to continue for the next three days. In response to this, a yellow alert has been issued for the next 24 hours. According to IMD, a yellow alert signifies “heavy rainfall,” ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm.

In contrast, the northern regions of the state are expected to experience light rainfall. A notable 38 percent rainfall deficit has been recorded from October to November. Coastal areas are grappling with a 14 percent deficit, while the northern hinterland faces a 25 percent shortfall.

Varied Rainfall Patterns

Mysuru and Bengaluru, on the other hand, have witnessed substantial rainfall this year. The weather agency forecasts cloudy weather in Bengaluru for the next three days, accompanied by possible thunderstorms and gusty winds at night.

Agricultural Impact and Hopes for Monsoon

The current onset of monsoon showers brings promise, particularly for farmers who have faced a lack of rainfall in recent times. The heavy rainfall expected in major districts is seen as a boon for autumn crops that typically require minimal labor and maintenance. The anticipation of a robust monsoon signals hope for these crops and the agricultural community at large.

As Karnataka prepares for significant rainfall, the issued yellow alert emphasizes the need for residents and authorities to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions. The varied rainfall patterns across the state highlight the diverse weather conditions experienced by different regions. While the precipitation may pose challenges, it also brings hope for agricultural communities banking on a successful monsoon for their crops. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines during this period of heightened weather activity.
