Abdul Naeem, one of three young men from Karnataka who recently returned from the Russia-Ukraine conflict zone, recounted his harrowing experience just miles from the border, where he heard the constant explosions of drone-dropped bombs. Naeem, who had been misled by a fraudulent agent into thinking he would be employed as security staff in Russia, found himself instead working as support staff for the Russian army in a dangerous area near the conflict zone.

Naeem described undergoing rigorous training and being separated from other Indians. He was stationed 19 kilometers from the border, in a high-risk area with frequent drone attacks. Fearing for his life, he and his fellow workers contacted their families and sought help from the Indian government.

His father, Abdul Rauf, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for their efforts in securing his son’s safe return. The family had to navigate numerous bureaucratic hurdles and advocate tirelessly for his release.

The case has highlighted the dangers posed by fraudulent job agents and the need for stringent measures to prevent such exploitation. The Indian government successfully negotiated with Russia for the safe return of Indian nationals, reflecting the significant diplomatic efforts involved in resolving such crises.
