Mangaluru: The Kedila Hardik Herbals Institute in Bantwala has proudly announced the receipt of a Central Government patent granted on the 13th of this month for its unique Kokareka herbal bath soap, which has been available in the market for the past three years.

Inspired by traditional remedies, the soap was developed with the memory of elders applying fruit peel juice to alleviate itching caused by sweat during childhood. Muralidhara K., the CEO of the organization, highlighted the contributions of researchers Badanaje Shankar Bhatt and Sreekumar in guiding the development of this innovative product.

The Kokareka soap is crafted using a blend of natural ingredients, including coriander, lavender, aloe vera, sago leaf, turmeric, and coconut oil, combined with fruit peel juice. The journey to obtain the patent began in 2021, culminating in approval from the National Biodiversity Authority, followed by the granting of the patent by the Copyright Office of India.

In addition to the soap, the institute is also exploring the potential of nut husks, which are currently being utilized to create dyes for textiles. Furthermore, the organization is diversifying its product line by producing ice cream, tea powder, and soft drinks from nuts, thereby enhancing their value and promoting sustainable practices in the region.
