Madikeri: Following the receding rains, Kodagu district has seen a rise in caterpillar infestations, with large numbers of the insects appearing in homes, yards, and commercial spaces. Despite their presence, agriculture and horticulture officials have confirmed that crops remain unaffected.

Experts, including Veerendra Kumar from the Gonikoppal Agricultural Science Centre, explained that caterpillars nesting in walls during this period is normal. He advised using neem oil and maintaining cleanliness to manage the infestation, as the insects will soon transform into moths.

In some areas, the infestation has caused concern, prompting local gram panchayats to spray chemicals for control.
