The Kodagu district police have dismantled a drug trafficking network that was transporting hydro ganja, a high-value narcotic, from Bangkok to Dubai via Kodagu. Seven individuals, including some from Kerala, have been arrested, with authorities seizing 3.31 kg of hydro ganja valued at ₹3 crore.

District Superintendent of Police K Ramarajan revealed in a press conference that the drugs were transported from Bangkok to Kodagu through Bengaluru International Airport before being smuggled to Dubai by air. Hydro ganja is grown in climate-controlled environments using artificial light, making it accessible in Bangkok and typically consumed by affluent buyers willing to pay high prices.

The police found the drugs stored in a house in Gonikoppa, Kodagu, as the accused planned to ship them to Dubai. Five suspects were apprehended while transporting the drugs to Madikeri, while another was arrested in Bengaluru. The main suspect, Mehroof from Kerala, attempted to flee but was captured at Kochi airport. The investigation has confirmed that the drugs were brought through Bengaluru airport, with police noting that technical flaws at the airport prevented earlier apprehensions.
