At the Connect Kodagu programme held in Madikeri, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) Managing Director KV Rajendra highlighted new initiatives to promote responsible tourism in Kodagu district. Speaking at the event, which involved various organizations and the Kodagu district administration, Rajendra outlined steps to enhance visitor facilities, control unauthorized wine production, and encourage ecotourism practices to maintain Kodagu’s natural environment. KSTDC and the district administration will collaborate with the health and police departments to address reports of substandard wine being sold in the region, a concern raised by local tourism stakeholders.

Rajendra noted that Kodagu attracts tourists, including solo travelers and those seeking health tourism, due to its natural appeal. He proposed opening older homes, as is done in parts of North India, to provide visitors with culturally rich lodging experiences. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of improving infrastructure, suggesting facilities such as restrooms and shops be made available every 60 kilometers along highways in the region.

The Kodagu district administration will release a coffee table book detailing local attractions, and an informational tourism app is under development. Present at the event were leaders from the Karnataka Tourism Society, Kodagu Homestay Association, and several regional hotel associations.
