MADIKERI: The Principal District and Sessions Court handed life imprisonment to Tarini (46) and her son Dharani Kumar (22) for the murder of Utharkumar, a resident of Peraje. In addition to life sentences, they were fined ₹1 lakh each. Both also received three years’ imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine for tampering with evidence.
The tragic incident occurred on May 8, 2020, during a heated argument that escalated into violence. Tarini and Dharani attacked Utharkumar with a sharp weapon, leading to his death on the spot. Following the crime, police, under the leadership of then-Inspector Diwakar, arrested the duo on May 9, 2020. A detailed charge sheet was submitted on July 17, 2020.
After thorough legal proceedings, Principal District and Sessions Judge Hosamani Pundalik delivered the verdict on December 12, 2024. Public Prosecutor K.G. Ashwini represented the prosecution effectively throughout the trial. Kodagu Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Ramarajan confirmed the court’s judgment.
This case underscores the swift response of law enforcement and judicial systems, ensuring justice for the victim.
