In a shocking case of infant abandonment, a 20-day-old baby girl with a facial deformity was discovered inside a stationary auto-rickshaw near the Mysuru Road Satellite Bus Stand in Bengaluru. The discovery was made by local residents on April 24, prompting an immediate police response.
Personnel from the Byatarayanapura police station swiftly arrived at the location, retrieved the newborn, and ensured she was safely transferred to child protection authorities. Authorities believe the child was deserted due to a cleft lip condition, considered a visible birth anomaly.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Bharath S Reddy spearheaded the inquiry. Officers meticulously combed through surveillance footage captured from nearby CCTV cameras. After hours of examination, the video evidence revealed a man and woman wandering suspiciously close to the site where the baby was found. Further footage clearly showed the pair holding the infant before walking away, leaving her behind.
Tracking their movements, police traced the duo to Virajpet in Kodagu district. Subsequent questioning unveiled a disturbing background: the man was already married to another woman but was in a relationship with the mother of the abandoned child. Investigators believe social stigma surrounding the child’s condition may have influenced their decision to forsake the baby.
Thanks to timely intervention and technology-backed investigation, the child is now in safe hands, and authorities have reunited her with officials working in child welfare services. Legal proceedings are likely to follow against the involved parties.
