
Relentless Rains Batter Kodagu, Power Disrupted, Tourist Access Curtailed
Madikeri, Kodagu: Kodagu district continues to reel under intense rainfall and fierce windstorms, severely impacting daily life. After a brief break on Wednesday morning, the rains returned overnight, causing widespread disruption and infrastructure damage.
The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) is striving to restore the electricity network, which has been severely hit, with 594 electricity poles damaged across the district. However, ongoing adverse weather is hindering repair work.
As per official records, Kodagu received 53.9mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The total cumulative rainfall since January stands at 634.1mm, significantly higher than the 350mm recorded during the same period last year.

With water levels in the Cauvery River rising and trees being uprooted, the Dubare Elephant Camp has been closed to tourists. The Deputy Conservator of Forests issued the restriction citing public safety amid hazardous conditions.
Officials urge residents to remain cautious and cooperate with emergency services during this period of extreme weather.
