On July 30, six individuals stranded in floodwaters in Kakotupurambu village, Virajpet taluk, Kodagu district, were rescued by fire and emergency services. The call for help was received at 7:40 a.m., prompting a swift response from rescue teams who used boats to reach the affected area and safely relocate the stranded individuals.
Kodagu district has been enduring heavy rainfall for the past ten days, causing rivers, including the Cauvery, and rivulets to overflow. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the region for the next 48 hours, signaling continued severe weather conditions.
Flooding has impacted many roads in the district. In Chiriyaparambu, water levels reached 4 feet above the road, disrupting vehicular traffic. Additionally, a family in Kuttandi village, Ponnampet taluk, had to be evacuated due to their house nearing collapse from rain damage. Similar incidents occurred in Tannimani village, Bhagamandala hobli, and Emmemadu village.
The embankments of a lake in Doddatturu village, Kushalnagar hobli, have weakened, prompting visits from senior revenue officials to assess the damage.
Recent rainfall measurements indicate widespread precipitation: Bhagamandala received 245 mm, Sampaje 185.5 mm, and other areas such as Napoklu and Ammati also experienced heavy rains. The inflow and outflow rates at local reservoirs, including Harangi and Kabini, have been adjusted to manage the high water levels.
