Kolar: A meticulous five-hour operation unfolded on Wednesday after an unclaimed suitcase was discovered on the service road of National Highway-75 near Tamaka village in Kolar district. The incident prompted a multi-department response involving police, fire and emergency services, BESCOM, and a bomb disposal squad.

Around 8 AM, locals were alerted by a peculiar ‘beep, beep’ sound emanating from the suitcase, drawing a crowd. Concerned members of the public quickly notified the Galpete police station about the suspicious object. Upon arrival, officers brought sniffer dogs and personnel from the district bomb disposal squad. Although an initial examination revealed no explosive devices inside the suitcase, the police opted to exercise caution and contacted the bomb disposal team from Bengaluru for further assistance.

Given the suitcase’s location under overhead electric wires, BESCOM personnel were also summoned to ensure safety during the operation. The bomb disposal experts arrived in Kolar around noon and successfully executed a controlled explosion using cordex, ultimately discovering that the suitcase contained an in-built sensor and a small electric device, which was responsible for the alarming sound.

Kolar Superintendent of Police Nikhil stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the suitcase’s origin and the identity of the individual who discarded it. He mentioned that the possibility of the suitcase being stolen and subsequently discarded is not ruled out.
