A 30-year-old man died by suicide inside SNR District Hospital in Kolar, just hours after formalizing his marriage. The deceased, Harish Babu from Nayakarahalli village, had been working as a data entry operator in the hospital’s E-Hospital division for over ten years.
On Wednesday, Harish and his colleague, a woman from Gandhinagar, registered their marriage at the Kolar sub-registrar’s office in the presence of family elders. The couple had been in a relationship for several years. After completing the registration, Harish traveled back to his village with his mother but returned to the hospital later that evening, citing official duties.
According to police, Harish allegedly consumed alcohol and took his life by hanging himself with a bandage inside one of the OPD sections around midnight. Hospital staff discovered his body early Thursday, leaving colleagues and locals shocked.
Sources said the woman had been pressing Harish to marry, and though both families had agreed, he appeared hesitant in recent days. A meeting between the families on July 1 near Kolar Railway Station had resulted in the decision to register the marriage immediately, with ceremonial rituals postponed until after the Ashada month.
Investigators believe emotional stress surrounding the marriage may have contributed to his decision, though the exact cause remains uncertain.
