Kolar: The parents of Manasa, a newlywed woman who committed suicide in Sahakar Nagar, Kolar, staged a protest in front of her son-in-law Ullas Gowda’s house on Sunday. They accused Ullas and his family of dowry harassment, claiming it led to their daughter’s tragic demise.
Despite the protest, Ullas Gowda and his family were absent from the scene. The cremation of Manasa took place near her husband’s house after the police intervened and promised to ensure justice.
Manasa and Ullas Gowda had been married for a year and resided in Girinagar, Bengaluru. Prior to her suicide, there were reports of dowry demands and mental harassment from Ullas’s family. Several attempts were made by elders to resolve the issues, but the situation escalated, leading to Manasa being sent back to her parents’ home.
A lawyer’s notice seeking a divorce had further distressed Manasa. Unable to cope with the pressures, she took her own life by hanging herself, leaving behind a suicide note.
Kolar Rural Police Station has registered a case of dowry harassment against Ullas Gowda, his parents, and in-laws. The police have formed a team to investigate the matter and apprehend the accused.
The District Superintendent of Police, Nikhil B, assured Manasa’s parents that justice would be served. He emphasized that the matter was a personal family issue and urged the parents to cooperate with the police investigation.
Various organizations and activists attended the protest, expressing their solidarity with Manasa’s parents. The police inspector and PSI from Kolar Rural Police Station visited the scene to persuade the parents and ensure that the cremation proceeded peacefully.
