Political betrayal and forest heist: Six held in daring gold robbery near TN border
In a dramatic breakthrough, Andhra Pradesh police have unraveled a high-profile gold robbery that took place late Wednesday evening near the Tamil Nadu border. The daring crime occurred in a secluded forest stretch along the ghat road, involving a vendor transporting gold from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.
The victim, a gold trader from Kolar, was en route to Vellore carrying 3.7 kg of antique jewellery for melting. Around 8 PM, his vehicle was intercepted by a knife-wielding gang. Both the trader and his driver were overpowered, tied up, and the assailants vanished with the gold.
A formal complaint lodged at V Kota police station triggered a swift investigation. The police team, led by DSP Prabhakar, zeroed in on the driver, whose call history revealed suspicious connections to the criminals. It emerged that the driver had colluded with the gang, tipping them off about the vendor’s route.
As the investigation widened, all five robbers were nabbed along with the driver, bringing the total arrests to six. Among the accused was a local political figure from Karnataka’s Kolar district, adding a sensational twist to the case. Sources confirmed the accused were being questioned intensively, and more details are expected in a press meet on Sunday.
While key suspects are now in custody, officials continue to piece together the wider network possibly involved in the crime.
