A 17-year-old girl studying at a private pre-university college in Karnataka’s Kolar district delivered a baby on the campus on Monday. A police officer said the girl, who is in Class 11, delivered her baby in the women’s toilet.

According to the police, the girl and the baby were shifted to a hospital. The girl’s parents later approached the Kolar Women’s Police Station and filed a complaint

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings and launched a search to apprehend the accused. “The girl and the boy had been in a relationship for two years. Despite the girl’s pregnancy, it remains unclear why her family did not notice and why she kept it concealed,” a police official commented. The girl is currently recovering, and counselors plan to speak with her soon.

Police have filed charges under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Section 376 (2)(n) (repeated rape of the same woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Despite the incident occurring nine months ago, before the implementation of new criminal laws, these amendments will not affect this case, according to police sources.
