A fatal mishap unfolded at a stone quarry near Makarahalli in Tekal hobli of Malur taluk, Kolar district, when a large boulder dislodged during a controlled explosion. The incident resulted in the death of one worker and left three others seriously wounded.
The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Venkatesh, originally from Andhra Pradesh. Along with him, workers Ishwar and Harish also sustained grave injuries while on duty. All three individuals were employed at the quarry, which is reportedly owned by Harish Gowda.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Superintendent of Police Nikhil B, accompanied by personnel from the Department of Mines and Geology, promptly visited the quarry site. The officials conducted an on-ground inspection to determine the cause and examine safety measures at the site.
Authorities have now launched a detailed investigation to understand whether safety protocols were followed during the quarry operations. The blast, intended to break apart rocks for extraction, turned fatal due to the unexpected dislodging of a massive stone.
The incident has sparked concerns regarding the enforcement of safety norms in mining and quarrying activities in the region. Locals and labor groups have raised questions about worker welfare and preventive measures at such hazardous workplaces.
