The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has apprehended an individual for unlawfully acquiring and distributing railway e-tickets. The arrest followed a targeted raid conducted by the RPF team from the Satellite Goods Terminal, Whitefield (SGWF), at a private establishment in Narshapura, Kolar, on June 13.
The accused was served a notice under Section 180B of the Railways Act, 1989, and instructed to report to the RPF sub-inspector for further inquiry. During the investigation, the person reportedly admitted to managing an unauthorized e-ticketing enterprise.
According to officials, he utilized several personal IRCTC user accounts to reserve railway tickets, which he then sold to customers at an extra charge, collecting between ₹200 and ₹300 per ticket as commission. Analysis of his mobile device revealed four IRCTC login credentials connected to his email ID.
The device also contained one active e-ticket valued at ₹2,335 and 15 completed journey tickets totaling ₹42,310, bringing the combined seized ticket value to ₹44,645. This confirmed the individual’s ongoing involvement in unauthorized ticket sales.
Following his confession and the seizure of digital evidence, the man was formally arrested and charged under Section 143 of the Railways Act, 1989, at the Bengaluru Cantonment RPF post. However, he was later granted bail on a personal surety bond, the RPF confirmed.
The crackdown highlights RPF’s continued efforts to curb illegal ticketing activities that exploit public digital platforms for personal gain.
